I love the romance of Paris…the beautiful architecture, strong lines and picture-perfect monuments.

Even ordinary signs have appeal to me in French.

I have an obsession with Laduree. This classy, elegant pastry shop on the Champs Elysses has been around since 1862. The celadon green box with silver writing is the Tiffany and Co of sweets.

The inventor of the double-decker macaroon, they sell 15,000 a day.
I am nonchalantly packing for my 20 day trip. 12 cities, 5 different countries.
In one bag.
1 overnight bag.
1 makeup bag.
1 accessory bag.
1 travel journal.
1 mini-laptop.
2 pairs of flip-flops.
2 pairs of heels.
2 sweaters/cover ups.
6 books.
14 knit dresses.
Done!

One thing the South Bay is not known for is its restaurants. Sure, we have hidden gems scattered throughout the cities, but very rarely does something come around that qualifies as top notch dining.
Enter Caffe Pinguini.
This small, out-of-the-way Italian restaurant is probably one of the most underrated eateries in all of Los Angeles. Located on a desolate side street in Playa del Rey, the quaint and romantic atmosphere is charming, yet quietly sophisticated. From the lattice enclosed patio to the sexy dark wood interior, you will appreciate the friendly greetings as you enter the restaurant. Located 1/2 a block from the Pacific Ocean, you are guaranteed a cool breeze and fresh, clean air. You will find authentic Italian here; from the knowledgeable waitstaff to the supply of wines. The two owners, Tony and Enrico hail from Rome and you can find at least one of them behind the bar or exchanging kind greetings with guests.
Consistency is key to fine dining, and after a dozen or so meals here, I can say they are spot on. From freshly baked bread to the purest dipping olive oil, all the details have been taken care of. The pizzas are amazing, as is the large selections of specials. The pizzas are thin crust with homemade dough, and can be catered to fit your tastes. One of my favorites is the Prosciutto Funghi. Any given day the specials can range from decadent oso buco to a homemade gnocchi, to 10 or so more. All the ingredients are fresh, and made from family recipes.
